The electronic age we live in...
For writers, or I suppose most everyone, the landscape in which we live and work has changed so dramatically with the electronic advances recent years. It is hard to imagine, but I suppose there are still places somewhere on this earth where people are not accessable to many of the computer age enhancements. Certainly with the advent of wireless capabilities, even the most primative geographic locations are not immune from man's devices. A PDA, Cellphone, wireless notebook or laptop can be taken everywhere a man can manage to get himself.
It strikes me with great interest that Sir Edmond Hillary in today's world could have "bloged" from the summit of Mount Everest. Had this been available to him, would many of us around the world set and waited for his message to appear indicating the triumphant success as he scrawled a few world across his "belog" stating date, time, name.... and something like the following.... We have reached the summit! Weather is fearce. Success is ours! Maybe it's not quite like being there... but is is certainly a different world we live in today.
For writers, the computer age has meant a great deal of changes. The idea of having to pound out a manuscript on a typewriter and the value of that one manuscript has been altered by the ability to save our work to disk and create multipal copies quickly.
Yet another aspect of these changes has been the ability of writers to network and exchange ideas as well as critique each others work almost instantly. Many writing sights are available that offer support for writers. My personal favorite is the Forward Motionsite: Forward Motion
I'm not sure what changes will await future writers... but these are exciting times for all of us.
